Sunrise 3 May - Dan Little
THE LAST WATCH #HullVigil730

Boxed, through choice!
One box, for one hour, over one city.
A city of two halves with two views divided by a mucky riv

An unspectacular sunset on a quiet Sunday evening formed a backdrop to a quite surreal experience.
07/05/22
I took vigil at sunrise to watch the city awaken. It was never asleep.

When we are sad, this experience shows that being in the moment, being present and focussing on what is close to us and around us is all we need to do.
05/05/22
I am so grateful for the perfect weather conditions which meant that I got to watch the sunrise twice – once as it appeared over the horizon and again as it came out from behind a thin layer of cloud.
05/05/22
I met my husband in The City pub and we were married a few steps away at St Mary’s Church on Lowgate. There is so much this city has given me.
05/05/22
My final thought goes to colleagues and friends who are abseiling down the K2 Building today for charity, reminding us all that there are still many good people in this world willing to help others less fortunate or in need.
05/05/22
I focussed on my breathing and before long I was stood up watching the world go by. It was so peaceful and calm, not even the clouds were moving.
05/05/22
I did not know what to expect and I was slightly apprehensive because of the height of the Vigil box. It was amazing to see the City wake up and take an hour out of my very busy life to just ‘chill’.
05/05/22
The city is clearly two halves though, in spite of this, the obvious greenery – trees in particular – was evident and very surprising. Even east and the ‘industrial area’ had pockets of green.
05/05/22
Found myself totally preoccupied with a lot of thoughts, (!) things I had forgotten about. Drawn to the history of Hull at its buildings but then naturally people/dog-watching and enjoying the positivity of everything!
05/05/22
The hour went by much faster than I thought it would and I spent most of the time whistling different tunes – the acoustics are brilliant! I definitely didn’t consider that aspect.
05/05/22
I noticed buildings and objects not seen before and loved watching how things started moving as people came alive.
05/05/22
A lovely still day, blue sky and cloud, mostly sunny but robbed of final view of sun going down by cloud for the last five minutes. Signing off my last Companion shift.
05/05/22
So magical to see the sunrise and then all of the different buildings emerge from the dark and hearing the city come to life after the night’s slumber.
04/05/22
A grey type of evening sky. The city lights arrived slowly. Gulls made flights past the shelter. I watched a ferry depart. I felt humble and blessed in this peaceful shelter.
04/05/22
I noticed no people, only an enthralling visual orchestra of time-stamped architecture, flowing willow branches, rippling water and the majestic arc of seagulls.
04/05/22
We all lead such busy lives so it was a privilege to take an hour out and enjoy the scenery of the Hull landscape.
