In this current climate to have one hour in solitude without a Zoom meeting, a text, a call, a doorstep visit is unheard of.

Loved it! Great to see over the City. So many memories and thoughts. Hull has some superb buildings.

After being a Companion, it is a totally different experience being a Vigil.

Walking into the Vigil space I didn’t know what awaits. After spending the time watching the sunrise it made me think about all the different people in the city living individual lives but part of one huge picture.

Looking over the City started as just looking for the landmarks. As time went on I started looking at the detail and how people interacted with their environment.

Where to start: even at this . . . . . hour the brain is very active. Only seven days to the longest day! The sun is just appearing well in the North East; just a light covering of clouds in the sky.

When I first heard about The Hull Vigil, I instantly knew I would love to take part and hoped I would be one of the lucky ones to receive a place. Thankfully, I was and I was not disappointed.

I was lucky to witness a spectacular sunrise over the city of Hull. It was magnificent, from windows burnt orange to hazy lemon, the rays spread out across as far as the eye could see.

The River Humber, Craven Park a ghostly beacon as the sun caught it and in the distance the tower blocks on Ings and Bransholme.

Even after observing for some time, new things became apparent such as the old railway carriage being renovated in the yard below.

This was a wonderful experience and one I am so pleased to have been able to do.

To spend an hour just in silence watching over the city was quite an experience. I

An hour of free flow thought brings you to many people and places you may not have thought of for a long time.

When we all live in such a busy world the opportunity to have an hour to stand, watch, reflect – free from technology and other distractions was really quite special.

Wonderful seeing the sunrise but so interesting too to be able to watch the shipping on the river.

The minute you step in, you feel this jaw-dropping moment of the absolutely beautiful view

I listened to the seagulls. I watched a couple of ships make their way up the Humber
