I wanted to sign up for Remembrance Sunday as I am from a military family and live with an ex-member of the Forces but I found myself just looking, watching and absorbing the scenery!

In Memoriam of Sophie Jayne Wilson, taken from us four years ago today.

It’s my second time as a Vigil. Utterly loved watching Hull wake up under my feet.
07/01/22
A reflective experience. It made me remember the poem, “What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare . . . .”

It’s been a privilege to watch over the city I love, seeing in a new year of clarity and, hopefully, peace.

The haze of the afternoon justified and contextualised living presently. Without any perceptions beyond the natural, the distances fade into memory.

No watch or clock in sight. I had no concept of time other than there simply being progress in the world. This made for a good reminder that there is progress, even in darkness.
07/01/22
Above all, a peaceful, contemplative hour, bookended by a lovely chat with my Companion.

The whole city was clear and the view to the East began to disappear as the clouds moved in.

The vigil was a very different experience for me compared to what I was expecting. It was a moment of realisation as to how beautiful the city really is.

I watched the sun rise and counted the number of wind turbine bases at Siemens through a small gap and returned to the familiarity of the West.

Wonderful. Very peaceful. You certainly don’t feel like master of all you survey, you feel like a very small cog in a very large wheel.
07/01/22
It was a completely unique experience to stand above the city and watch it wake up.
07/01/22
What an absolute joy to stand alone in the pod in total silence watching over the city which is my adopted home.
07/01/22
A chance to glimpse views that I would never have otherwise seen and to take time to reflect and contemplate the world.
07/01/22
A once in a lifetime opportunity to spend an hour watching and listening to a city I love. A city going to sleep after a long day but also waking up for the night.
07/01/22
The Vigil for this morning did not arrive and this gave me the opportunity to see another spectacular sunrise.
03/12/21
A city full of buildings, pavements and structures that evoke memories of socials, dog walks, shopping and leisure. It’s hard to make out all its layers but I know they are there. I can almost see my house too!

The Humber was icy blue, beautiful, mesmerising. When I stopped looking for recognisable buildings, I surveyed the vista and realised how green it actually was, how many trees peppered the landscape both in the city and beyond.
