Sunrise 5 November - Gail Carmichael
Such an honour to stand watch over a City I know so well. At first I focussed on the buildings I recognised to orientate my view, but quickly I became absorbed by the things I’d never seen before. The Humber was icy blue, beautiful, mesmerising. When I stopped looking for recognisable buildings, I surveyed the vista and realised how green it actually was, how many trees peppered the landscape both in the city and beyond. I meditated for a while, letting the warmth of the sunrise fill me up and the sounds of the city waking up wash over me. I stood in the centre of the pod and looked left and right, seeing the snapshot of view; looking to the west I saw images that told of business, commerce and finance and to the east I saw industry and manufacturing and the place where I lived/my heart remains. I love that the experience took place above the college building where all of Hull’s residents will have visited at one time or another! I love my city and I’m proud that I took my place in history to be one of the city vigils.
