Sunrise 11 August 2021 - ANDY MEDCALF

Before I came I didn’t really know what to expect, but it was a truly peaceful hour of reflection and seeing the city in, literally, a whole new light.

I was lucky enough to experience a few minutes of the most striking blood orange sun, followed by brilliant white illuminating the city.

I was surprised – although I shouldn’t have been – at just how peaceful the city is at 5.30 am.  The low city hum only interrupted by the seagulls.

I was also struck at the contrast between the two views – the west was more grand and showy, with the east more workmanlike and active.

Thank you for the opportunity to be reminded just how beautiful our city is!
